Bariatric Transport

8 specialist bariatric vehicles with heavy-duty tail lifts, extended stretchers rated to 350 kg+, and bariatric-trained crews across England.

Specialist Bariatric Fleet

Our 8 bariatric-specification vehicles are purpose-built and purpose-fitted — not standard PTS vehicles adapted post-manufacture.

🚑

8 Vehicles

Dedicated bariatric-spec ambulances across our 9-depot network.

⚖️

350 kg+ Rated

Heavy-duty tail lifts and stretchers rated to a minimum of 350 kg — exceeding standard NEPTS specification.

🛏️

Extended Stretchers

Extended-width, extended-length stretchers with motorised adjustment for patient comfort and crew safety.

🔧

Reinforced Fittings

Reinforced floor anchoring, heavy-duty safety straps, and wide-door access to reduce patient manual handling risk.

Clinical Triage Process

Every bariatric referral is clinically triaged before dispatch to ensure the right vehicle and crew configuration.

1

Referral & Weight Confirmation

Referrer provides patient weight, BMI and relevant clinical information. Our triage team confirms the appropriate vehicle specification.

2

Equipment Check

Vehicle and stretcher rated capacity verified against patient requirements. Additional equipment (e.g., hoist) arranged if required.

3

Access Assessment

Where necessary, crew will contact the collection or destination address in advance to assess access — doorway widths, lift availability, ground floor access.

4

Joint Planning for Complex Cases

For patients whose weight or clinical presentation exceeds standard parameters, we work directly with the hospital bariatric team to plan the journey.

Bariatric crew training

Crew Training

  • Bariatric manual handling — patient-transport specific (not general MH training)
  • Safe use of powered tail lifts and motorised stretchers
  • Bariatric patient communication and dignity in care
  • Equipment inspection and maintenance protocols
  • Partnership with hospital bariatric teams on complex discharges
  • Clear escalation pathway where weight or condition exceeds equipment capacity
  • Enhanced DBS checked — renewed every 3 years
  • Basic Life Support — refreshed annually
