What Commissioners Say

Trusted by NHS teams across England.

★★★★★
"The difference between Health Connections and our previous provider came down to one thing: clinical ownership. When we call at 3 AM with an urgent S136, a clinician takes the call — not a call centre. That single change has eliminated 90% of the friction we used to have around urgent mental health transfers."
Head of Mental Health Commissioning

★★★★★
"What stood out during procurement was the transparency. They showed us their training matrix, gave us the Clinical Director's mobile number, and offered quarterly governance reviews as standard. It felt like partnering with a clinical service, not buying from a supplier."

"The 45-minute written confirmation commitment was a game-changer for our ward staff. They get written confirmation — crew names, vehicle reg, ETA — within 45 minutes of every referral. That predictability matters when you're managing acutely unwell patients."

From First Call to Handover

What happens when
you call us.

Every referral follows the same disciplined process — whether it's an S136 at 3am or a planned NEPTS run next Tuesday. Here's exactly what happens from the moment you dial 0333 300 2960.

01

You call. A clinician answers.

0333 300 2960. Answered by a qualified clinician — not a receptionist, not a voicemail system, not an out-of-hours call centre. The person who takes your call can make clinical decisions on the spot, triage the referral immediately, and begin the dispatch process without any internal transfer or escalation.

24/7. No exceptions. No voicemail.
02

Clinical triage — in real time.

The clinician taking your call conducts an immediate triage: patient presentation, acuity, legal status (for S136/S135 referrals), any known clinical risks, mobility requirements, gender preference, bariatric needs. This determines crew specification, vehicle type, and whether enhanced escort is required — all decided before the crew is deployed.

Clinician-led triage on every call
03

Written confirmation within 45 minutes.

Regardless of the time of day, day of the week, or complexity of the referral — you receive written confirmation within 45 minutes. The confirmation includes: crew names, qualifications summary, vehicle registration, ETA window, and the name of the control room clinician managing the job. This is not a best-efforts target — it is a contractual guarantee.

Guaranteed. In writing. In SLA.
04

Crew deployed — tracked live.

The assigned crew acknowledges the job via the HealthConnect OS mobile application. Their position, ETA and status updates are tracked in real time by the control room and available to commissioners via the HealthConnect OS portal. Your clinical team can check live progress without calling us — but you can always call us if you need to speak to a human. Someone is always there.

Live GPS tracking via HealthConnect OS
05

Patient collected — with dignity.

The crew arrives and introduces themselves to the patient and the attending clinical team. De-escalation is the first tool — always. Least restrictive practice is the standard, not the exception. The crew brief is read, clinical handover is accepted from the sending team, and the patient is transferred with their safety, dignity and wellbeing at the centre of every decision made.

Dignity-first. BILD RRN PMVA. De-escalation always.
06

Handover complete. Documentation delivered.

On arrival at the receiving unit, the crew conducts a structured clinical handover — verbal and written — using the HealthConnect OS ePCR. The completed ePCR includes: journey timeline, any clinical observations, intervention log (if applicable), and patient responses. A copy is automatically shared with your commissioning contact and available in the portal. The control room is notified of completion and the job is closed in the system.

Full ePCR. Automated to commissioner portal.

Ready to experience this for a transfer? Our clinical team is available to run a no-obligation demonstration — including a live walkthrough of the HealthConnect OS portal.

Our purpose is simple: every patient we transport deserves the same standard of care, dignity and safety — regardless of whether their journey is routine or high-risk. We've built Health Connections around that principle from day one.

In Practice

How Health Connections delivers when it matters most.

Three scenarios — illustrative but clinically accurate. These reflect the types of transport we carry out every day. Names and identifying details are fictitious. All clinical protocols are real.

S136 Mental Health Act

3am. A detainee in crisis.
45 minutes to written confirmation.

⏱ Response: 38 min confirmation👥 2-person PMVA crew✓ Place of Safety handover: 22 min

The situation

A mental health liaison nurse called our dispatch line at 02:47. A 34-year-old patient had been detained under S136 MHA 2007. The hospital had no S136 suite; the nearest Place of Safety with capacity was 18 miles away. Patient had a previous history of physical resistance.

What we did

  • 02:47Clinician answers. Full clinical triage begins: risk level, mobility, history, restraint requirements, gender preference noted.
  • 03:02Written confirmation sent: two BILD RRN PMVA-trained crew dispatched, vehicle registration, ETA 03:31 to ED bay.
  • 03:29Crew arrives. Joint handover. No physical intervention required — de-escalation approach effective.
  • 03:51Handover at Place of Safety. Full ePCR documentation transferred.

CAMHS Secure Transport

CAMHS out-of-area placement.
310 miles. Female crew. Zero incidents.

⏱ Journey duration: 5 hrs 20 min👥 All-female crew (requested)✓ Safeguarding Level 4 crew

The situation

A CAMHS service manager contacted us at 08:30. A 14-year-old girl needed emergency transfer to an out-of-area CAMHS bed over 300 miles away. History of absconding and extreme anxiety. Commissioner requested an all-female crew and discreet (non-ambulance-liveried) vehicle.

What we did

  • 08:30CAMHS clinical triage: risk level, safeguarding flags, vehicle type, crew gender confirmed.
  • 08:52Written confirmation sent: all-female two-person crew (BILD RRN PMVA, Safeguarding Level 4, Enhanced DBS), discreet Response Car, departure 10:15.
  • En routeTwo planned breaks agreed with patient and parent. Real-time GPS visible to commissioner via HealthConnect OS throughout.
  • 15:35Safe handover at CAMHS unit. Full ePCR and risk summary transferred to receiving clinical team.

NEPTS · Bariatric

High-weight discharge. Third floor.
No lift. Handled without incident.

⏱ Bariatric-spec vehicle deployed👥 3-person crew + stair-chair✓ Pre-departure site survey

The situation

A Patient Flow Coordinator booked a bariatric discharge three days ahead. Patient weight: 186kg. Ward: third floor, no lift for a bariatric stretcher. Previous provider had refused, citing manual handling risk.

What we did

  • Day 1Clinical triage flagged stair evacuation requirement. Three-person crew assigned. Site survey visit arranged for the day prior.
  • Day 2Crew visited ward. Stair route assessed, stair-chair confirmed compatible. Exact route planned with ward staff.
  • Day 3 09:00Three-person crew arrives with bariatric-spec vehicle, stair-chair and extended-width stretcher. Dignity-first approach throughout.
  • 11:15Completion report filed. Commissioner notified. Clinical Director sign-off: zero incidents.
